Sherlock Holmes is in the newspaper the news of his release from prison, after 6 years, dangerous criminals, Peter Channing, who helped capture the Metropolitan Police. In the same newspaper is also news of the shooting of a man who was a witness in the Channing. Soon, another witness testifying killed years ago in this matter. Sherlock Holmes meets Channing, invites him to tea room to talk. He learns that freed gunman also plans revenge on him. Holmes warns him that he will not wait passively for death and is ready to repay the same. It begins with a psychological duel between a detective and a criminal.

IMDB Storyline:

Young and beautiful Meredith Stanhope is the daughter of the owner of the line of passenger steamers. After the death of the girl's parents has passed into the hands of one of the three uncles Meredith, Ronald. One day, Meredith reported to Sherlock Holmes, claiming that someone probably comes the life of her wealthy and tyrannical uncle. Asks the famous detective to detect the source of the threat. Unfortunately, during the meeting gets a notification that Ronald was murdered. After his death, at the head of the company is another of Stanhope's, Alexander, but he soon dies. The performance of the two crimes is accused of three uncles Meredith, Everett, whom the brothers death opened the way to drop, and as an avid, but not very lucky gambler, Everett desperate for money. While Everett awaits trial in custody, shall be submitted to Holmes, the youngest of the brothers of the bride Stanhope, Helen Grey. She and Everett had to get married, but in this situation do not want to convict her broken life. Holmes, who does not believe in the guilt of Everett, but encourages brides to declare to the public information about their imminent wedding. He is convinced that it will provoke actual criminal to act, and thus help to expose him.

Holmes took the case for the very ambitious, intelligent and loving boy. He learns that Wharton disputes the debt of a man named Jack Driscoll. So the detective suggests an idea of where to look for the debtor.

Is kidnapped known traveler, McIntyre. Kidnappers demand letter from his family's ransom, threatening that if they do not receive money wretch head. Horrified relatives approve of these conditions, suspecting that a kidnapping is a dangerous offender, Mendoza. Freddy goes with a suitcase of money at the event, the alleged kidnapper killed in mysterious circumstances. It turns out, however, that the corpse was not Mendoza, only usurer Harry Marx, but found at his suitcase is empty - the money disappeared. Sherlock Holmes, asked to solve this mysterious case easily guess who plotted the whole plot and deftly exposes the offender.

The partner dies mysteriously age, moving on a wheelchair multimillionaire Lord Magruder, Fred Kimberley. Police determines that the man killed himself, clearing the weapon. The Lord, however, does not believe in this version of events. In a letter to the famous Sherlock Holmes detective asked to examine the matter again, because it disturbed the event, to which recently occurred in its environment. Premonition wash it - soon he falls victim to a conspiracy. In the palace there are substitutions people who have to pretend his butler Riggs and the Secretary Chesney, also appears deceptively similar false lord.
